NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge 2024 Round 3

After placing 4th in Round 2, I submitted a story to NYCM’s Short Story Round 3.

We had ~48 hours to write a 1,500-word short story; 376 writers participated in 15 groups, with approximately 25 writers per group.

My prompts were Horror / The Last Straw / A Volunteer.

I’m super-jazzed! I’ve never been in an NYCM Round 3, so this is all new territory. I’m competing against many talented people, but I hope my story carries me through.
